The frequent disharmony or even dislocated operation of IT departments within a company – which is usually the result of unclear demands from the users of IT support on one hand and the absence of strategic guidelines from the management of the company on the other hand – is the reason the IT support of business develops in disharmony, with high costs and it does not even work.

A comprehensive IT strategy has to be based on both current and future needs of the users of IT support in a company. Identifying their needs is most beneficial if it is undertaken from the viewpoint of the business processes in a company. The knowledge of these is the foundation for the set-up of the specifications, functionality, and demands of the information solutions (IS). The defined IS for individual business fields of the company have to be introduced in harmony with its operation, and at the same time assuring assure maintenance within the framework of a defined development environment.
